Darlington has a rich heritage of ingenuity. Why not walk, cycle or take the bus into town and take part in this great free event.

After the launch of the first steam locomotive powered passenger railway between Stockton and Darlington in 1825 crowds apparently gathered to watch Locomotion No 1 cross the Skerne Bridge. It is still a popular destination for railway enthusiasts from around the world.

Darlington has been a centre of engineering for many years, with bridges built in the town being found as far away as the River Amazon. The town is home to several large engineering firms who feature each year in the town centre Festival.

The festival is free and includes the opportunity to meet the companies present along with a range of science-based activities in the Market Square that will inspire, as well as entertainment and live music in Riverside Park.

You can view photos from past events on the festival website and find out more about the festival on its Facebook and Twitter pages.
