This Summer get the whole family Together and help celebrate your local museum!

Tees Valley Museum Group are hosting a programme of special events, including a construction challenge, sports activities and moon and space themed crafts.

There will be lots of astronaut and space themed activities including a construction challenge, sports activities and moon and space crafts at Head of Steam. Pretend you are walking on the moon with our big funny feet! Make a moon shelter model, and explore myths about the moon with some cool crafts!

 The Festival will run across Tees Valley Museum venues between 10- 18 August

Heritage Festival - Piercebridge Event

Celebrate the history and heritage of the Tees Valley at our free family day including activities, re-enactments, displays throughout the day, storytelling, heritage crafts, and much more! Explore the living history camp, make some leatherwork or pottery and watch the soldiers in action. A shuttle bus will run between the Head of Steam Museum & Piercebridge. Refreshments will on sale in the church courtesy of the Parish Council, or feel free to bring a picnic. The event is on Saturday 17th August 11am-4pm. James Hunter, Groundwork NE & Cumbria Delivery Officer said, “What a way to celebrate the huge range of heritage we have here in the Tees Valley. We celebrate the Roman heritage that is under our feet in Piercebridge, the Civil War Battles, the vast pottery heritage we have throughout the Tees, and everything in between! Join us for a wonderful, fun-filled day.” The River Tees Rediscovered Partnership Project, part of Groundwork NE & Cumbria, received confirmation of a grant of £1.89m from the National Lottery Heritage Fund in June 2014. Along with partner contributions, a programme of initiatives worth £3.7m has been delivered over the last five years, with a number of complementary projects including access and wildlife improvements (with plenty of volunteering opportunities) focusing on the River Tees corridor from the estuary, upstream to Piercebridge, west of Darlington.

Big Barrage Picnic

FREE FAMILY ACTIVITIES Bring along a picnic or grab a bite to eat at the cafe. Take part in lots of free family friendly activities and make the most of special offers and free giveaways, including den building, river modelling, music, arts & crafts, air trail & water sports*, wildlife activities, Lego building, bee hives, Barrage tours and much, much more!
