Travelling smart is on the curriculum at Redcar & Cleveland College
The sun was shining but the wind was up when we visited winners of the Redcar & Cleveland College commuter challenge, so we took shelter and had a chat in the college foyer about how they choose to travel to work.
Ruth gets her steps in!
Ruth chooses to walk to work because it is quicker to that than is it to take the car. The college has plenty of parking spaces so it’s good to see that despite the ease of travelling by car, health and fitness win in Ruth’s case. She is a keen dog walker so even though her journey to work is short she gets her steps up whilst walking her dog.
Sam is flexible with her travel plans
Sam car shares on a regular basis, either with her husband or with a colleague. During the commuter challenge she chose to car share with her colleague and they even continued through the bad weather, trekking to work in temperatures of -4!
Find a car share partner
Ruth has a colleague which she car shares with, maybe there is someone at your place of work who is looking to car share but how do you find them? If you need to travel by car and would like to find a car share partner so that you can save money on your commute you can ask your employer if they run a car-share sheme. If not take a look at the Lift Share website to find a car-share buddy.
Get involved in the Commuter Challenge
We run our Commuter Challenge across Tees Valley, improving employee wellbeing and reducing pressure on car-parking. If your business would like to get involved you can contact Alex Kay at Let's Go Tees Valley.
